Unreasonable Anger
Ian @ November 15, 2008 # No Comment Yet
Harper is pushing for more international monitoring of financial systems, and yet is that an answer? Isn’t it the international pressures that has led to these economic problems in the first place? Does forcing a one size fits all policy on each nation help or hinder? Myself, I believe that the ethics and values of some nameless global group simply isn’t going to help me, or my country. This is more of the Conservative mantra to do whatever it takes, to keep profits growing. I mean during the 90’s it was the international funds that pushed us to lower our health care costs, not because they were hurting us, but because it angered the americans, who didn’t have national health, still don’t. Our values were forced to be lowered, to be put at risk, because what works for us, didn’t work or weren’t considered valid in other countries. Why should our ethics, our values be subject to the whims of the other nations? We believe in certain things, why should our desire to have national health, or have tougher banking regulations, be subject to any foreign group, specially when that group isn’t even a government? Why should our Government be willing to lessen our control, to make bankers in Germany or New York City happy? Coming together on a global scale, to address issues that effect our world, is a good thing. Allowing for our own ethics, values, to be subjected to some Global View such as health care, education, banking, is not a good part of Globalization. We are not all mindless drones, we do not all subscribe to the same values, same God, as others but our leaders want us to be the same, to be held to the same standard, which gets lower and lower with each year. When do we stop lowering our standards, our values, and start insisting on raising them?

I wonder, what ever really happened to values, to being honest?
If you listen to the Politicians, they have all the answers, until they get elected, then they suddenly don’t have any answers. Like our Stephen Harper who promised the moon, swore up and down he’d deliver on giving Canada a Government we could be proud [...]

Guns Okay
Ian @ June 27, 2008 # No Comment Yet
What is it about guns and Americans? What is the big deal about owning a gun? Does it give a person an erection? Does it give them an orgasm? Or is it about the thrill of being able to be macho, to be the big white hunter? Even in Canada we have that sort of mentality, that we have the need for guns. Yet isn’t what a police force is supposed to be about, protecting us? Question is, who will protect us from ourselves? With everyone being allowed to own guns, is it the criminal who is seeking the gun for protection?

97 Suspensions for Violence
Ian @ April 24, 2008 # No Comment Yet
The attack on a 7 year old is just one of many attacks he endured. Despite notices to the School, nothing was done, until a lawyer becomes involved. And the school has taken some action, it suspended 97 students for violence, but the question is, what are they doing to end the cycle of violence, and to protect those attending schools? This isn’t high school either, but elementary school. Makes you wonder, what is going on these days.

As the Candidates run around, trying to convince voters in Iowa to vote for them, the world goes on. I don’t know, but frankly already I am tired of the attack ads, the rhetoric, and the phony smiles and handshakes. Every time you turn on the news there is someone talking or spinning some yarn [...]

44 Years
Ian @ November 22, 2007 # No Comment Yet
44 Years ago John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and that loss still haunts the world today. The loss of his leadership, of his inspiration has been sorely missed. His death maybe the turning point, where America lost it’s bid for greatness, lost its drive and way. Today we have George W. Bush instead, and America has gotten the short end of the deal on that deal.

Who is Watching?

Technology seems to be making huge advances on how it can help society. Iris Scans and Implants are leading edge ways for Government to track citizens, to determine a person’s true identity. In some instances, that is a huge help. Such as in finding kidnap victims, or who is a terrorist or not. However there is a huge downside as well.
To have Government know your every move, where you shop, where you are 24/7 seems plausible and frightening. This no longer seems to be about safety, but about one’s invasion of privacy. It is as if the Government no longer believes people have such a right, as they lean towards more invasive ways to keep tabs on its citizens. Smacks more of Communism than just George Orwell’s 1984.

Outing a Fictional Character

Interesting how things are so different between two countries. The outing of Dumbledore of Harry Potter fame is a huge issue among many Evangelicals in the United States, yet in Canada it is about why Harry Potter is so well liked by children. It is about how kids identify with Harry, and about how it is about teaching tolerance, teaching acceptance of differences. Certainly an interesting comparison, one that Stephen Harper probably wishes didn’t exist, or wasn’t as prominent as it is.

Jobs I Won’t Do…
Ian @ October 15, 2007 # No Comment Yet
When a head of state tells you that he needs to implement programs to bring in more labour, because you, the citizen, won’t do certain jobs, it is time to find a new leader. Yet George Bush & Stephen Harper seem to thrive on insulting the very people who they are dependent upon for election. Mind you Bush is finished next year, still it does sort of make you angry, at how he really thinks of those who voted for him. Same for Harper, though in lesser terms, I guess, as he is still hoping we’ll re-elect him.
One more reason why there shouldn’t be TERM LIMITS. Without term limits, we get a chance to vent, to throw the bum out, not just let him retire in comfort. Everyone needs to vent a little when they get saddled with an arrogant smug jerk, such as Bush. The audacity of the man, to claim there are jobs people won’t do, which is why people break the law to sneak into the USA. It isn’t that there aren’t jobs people won’t do, just corporations that want cheap labor, without having to pay any benefits.
Makes you wonder if they pay any of the source deductions, or do they pocket those too?

It isn’t a holiday I actually celebrate, though the wife does. This year he didn’t do much, and I didn’t really go all out making Turkey Dinner for him. Besides he went out with his parents and grandmother, which sort of has me thinking about this holiday.
I suppose, back in the day, when I was [...]

Two Tiered Health Care.
Ian @ August 28, 2007 # No Comment Yet
Health Care is never going to be affordable. With the demand of labor professionals, the cost involved in maintaining the facilities, the common man will never be able to afford decent health care, until Government steps in and manages the whole industry. This isn’t about corporate profits, nor should it be, though that is exactly what a Two Tier Health Care system is about. Two Tiers means two health care systesm, one for the poor and another for the rich.
Health is too important to be allowed to be decided by how much money you have in the bank. If society truly believes that each citizen is important, then it must allow for Universal Health Care, that is based on Service, not on Profits. People who are the backbone of any industrialized nation need to be able to not worry about health insurance. They need to be able to seek and get health care help when required, and no Private Health System can deliver that. By its very nature, Private Health Care is about making money off your sickness, and as costs go up, so does your costs. Low Income or even Middle Income wage earners cannot keep pace with such increases, which is why true Universal Health Care is essential, if Democracy itself, is to survive.

Can You Tell The Difference?

With the war in Iraq continuing to be violent and seemingly never ending, in some parts the US Forces are making headway. Though at what price? Seems that with new allies, who are as brutal, as violent as those being opposed, it seems the lines are blurred between the Good Guys and the Bad Guys.

Have They Asked Themselves Why?
Ian @ June 18, 2007 # No Comment Yet
This is the problem. America seems to be looking everywhere but where the issues are. Harry Reid talks about bringing the troops home. Okay, fair enough, but what does he offer in its place? Does he offer keeping a large number in Kuwait in case they are needed again? He talks about redeployment, about strategic relocation, but to where? And what does Hilary say about it all? She likes Bush for his Immigration debacle, but now opposes his Iraq policy, but what is hers other than to try and get her vote of support changed on the record?

It is also the other result of all this discrimination. Sometimes, you just don’t want to have to deal with the trauma, the disturbances of people’s hates. I mean, it is distracting, so sometimes you wind up losing someone valuable, because really, you just have had enough. While Hawkins may have been fired for poor performance, it is also likely he was let go, simply to bring peace to the program, to end the daily fights and worry, about it all.

You listen to the News today, about the war on the Middle Class, the low wage scales due to illegal immigration, and you have to wonder. Why? I mean are we so consumed with greed, that discrimination becomes second nature when running a business? Sure we all want profits, large profits, but when did money replace morality and ethics?
