Who is Screwing Who? Harper or Dion?

Minority Watch

You know, the comments by Stephen Harper in Regina, with Saskatchewan Premier Wall remind me of the George Bush speech, where he says either you are for the US or you are Not. This is a similar approach, a bit more vulgar than his hero George, but typical. Mind you too, wasn’t it Premier Wall and others who were laughing about ‘the fagots‘?

Prime Minister Stephen Harper pulled no punches on Friday in describing a carbon tax proposal by Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion, saying it would “screw everybody” across Canada. (source - CBC News)

Simple truth of the matter is that Stephen Harper is afraid of doing what is right. Yes the NEP angered many in the West, because somehow the thinking of the time was that who needed a National Government, that we should all let each Province dictate to the other Provinces, that sharing the wealth was somehow wrong.

Brian Mulroney changed all that when he came into power, and let’s take a look at how it has worked for everyone. Stephen Harper wants to improve on that record of division, of creating greater disparity between regions.

Are you paying less or more per liter of gas than Albertans?

Simple truth is that we, as a nation, believe in a Central Government. Look South at the USA that has 50 different regions, each separate, each with its own controls, laws, and regulations. Take a good close look at how they have more violent crime per capita than we do, at how their borders are totally insecure, and how FIFTY MILLION ARE WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE.

Then take a look at their Education System. Some states have a graduation rate of UNDER FIFTY PER CENT. Now I don’t know, but seems to me that if we share the wealth, if we spread it out to those who don’t have it, WE CREATE A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD FOR EVERYONE. Isn’t that one of George Bush’s favorite mantras?

Harper, who has previously called Dion’s plan “insane,” said the policy is not only bad for Western Canada, but “will recklessly harm the economy and the economic position of every Canadian family.” (source - CBC News)

And Stephen Harpers auto rebate plan has helped how?

Oh and let’s not forget how he took over a multi billion dollar surplus that has since evaporated, due in large part to the high cost of FUEL. And his plan is what? Oh to let Alberta charge more, or to follow in George Bush’s footsteps, those of John McCain, and do more offshore drilling and endanger our shorelines?

How about his plan to reward the Mining Companies by putting their toxic wastes in our lakes? Now that is really going to help the environment and improve jobs isn’t it?

Then how about his adherence to the Security Prosperity Partnership agreement that will see cheap Mexican Labor enter the Canadian Workforce, putting a greater strain on our health care system, our education system, and our welfare system, just as it has done in the United States. Let’s not forget how it also increases the dangers to our food supply, by allowing un-inspected products into Canada.

So who is really SCREWING EVERYBODY?

Now you have to love Dion’s response, and you know it would be an interesting debate, just as it was when Pierre Trudeau debated Joe Clark on the Conservative plan to turn over resources to the Provinces. Funny how Stephen Harper forgot that a minority Tory government had its butt kicked in that election, as Canadians across the board rejected the Regional Approach of Joe Clark.

Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion on Saturday invited Prime Minister Stephen Harper to have an “adult” discussion about the Liberals’ carbon-tax plan. (source - CBC News)

I think Mr. Dion will have a long wait for any ‘adult discussion‘ when it comes to Stephen Harper. It just isn’t in the man to be adult, or to be forthcoming either. He is about smoke and mirrors, like his hero George Bush. Transparent Government was his election ploy last time out, and integrity, but ask yourself, how honest has the Harper Government been?

He has shielded Brian Mulroney on Airbus, on the whole Schreiber mess, and then there is the Cadman Affair. Frankly this is a government for Big Business, not for Canadians. And no it isn’t even for Canadian BIg Business, but for FOREIGN BUSINESS INTERESTS.

Mining Companies get our lakes, the oil companies are plunging our economy into a depression, and cheap shoddy goods continue to enter without restriction, without inspection, because of Harper’s need to give George Bush whatever the man wants, in an effort to claim better relations with the United States. The same US Government that lied through its teeth about Arar, and who knows what else.

While the plan by Dion seems complex, at least it is better than doing nothing, as Harper is doing today. At least it is something to discuss, something on the table. What has Stephen Harper put on the table but a tax credit for taking a bus? His car rebate scheme is a sham, and even Tory Economists discount his energy plan, if you can call it that. All Stephen Harper has done is NOTHING.

The Oil Industry needs to be regulated, to end its idle speculation and huge profits that threaten our entire economy. Mining Companies need to PAY THEIR WAY, and not POLLUTE OUR LAKES with Government Assistance. At least Stephane Dion is offering something, all Stephen Harper is offering is vulgar rhetoric.

ONLY ONE SCREWING EVERYBODY, IS STEPHEN HARPER & HIS GOVERNMENT
