Pay More, Get Less Rights
Well did you file your taxes on time last month?
Dave and I filed a joint return, because in Canada we can legally do so, because we are also legally married. A right enjoyed by the majority of heterosexuals in the world, but not by homosexual couples in most of the world. Thing is, not only do we not get to file joint taxes, saving on our tax bill, but we are doing so, to foster a system that wishes to keep us paying more to them, to keep us second class.
Citing the so-called Federal Defense of Marriage Act the IRS says that the US government does not recognize anything other than legally married opposite-sex couples. (see Story)
You would think in a Capitalist Society, that the more you pay, the more you make. Not so when you are queer. Instead you pay more, but you get less, not just in benefits, but in cost to simply living. Think of all the wasted money spent by the Politicians to enact stupid laws like the ‘In Defence of Marriage Act’ and other Anti Civil Right Legislation this administration has. Like Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. How much is that costing taxpayers?
(see comment ‘More Than A Piece of Paper‘) As I have said before, marriage is not just a religious institution. If women can attend West Point, why can’t Gays? And why can’t we be entitled to the same rights woman are entitled to, such as serving in the Military and filing joint returns if they marry that cutie next door to them? It isn’t about some religious double talk, but about being practical. People who live under the same laws, should be entitled to the same benefits, irrespective of differences.
Government wastes enough money, surely we should be able to keep what little we earn, to waste ourselves. Not like we need the Government’s help in that end, but being forced to pay more, to get less, that’s just wrong.
