Back In The Closet

Politics

Seems that between the United States Military with its ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy (see “Is Your Blood Red?” and “Lets Meet Our Recruitment Target” and the latest missive from the Catholic Bishops (see Gay Persuasions comment), that us nasty homosexuals are supposed to simply calmly walk back into the closets of society and keep the door firmly shut.

There is a court challenge in the works, well an appeal actually, because the lower court thought the case was frivilous and without merit. So let me see, we are allowed to serve, to die if need be, but hey if they find out we queer we get the boot sans all benefits? Frivilous? No Merit? Somebody needs to give that judge a shake, but then this is what happens when politicians keep harping on Judges being Activists (see ‘Activism or Rule of Law’) instead of calling them Jurists. You browbeat them into submission and so get your way, the racist way.

In April, a federal judge in Massachusetts on Monday dismissed the case, accepting arguments by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Quinlivan that the suit was frivolous and without merit. (full story)

It really is amazing at how stupid these rules are. I mean put aside the argument about unit cohesion, how about security? I mean think about it and ask yourself, do you want to give your enemies an opportunity to blackmail soldiers? See, if you keep gays in the closet, make it a disgrace to be who they are, you open them up to blackmail. Many gays serve proudly, and in key positions too. So what happens if some terrorists finds out they are gay? Easy blackmail prey wouldn’t you say?

See this is the whole thing. There are so many holes in the whole concept of ‘DADT’ that it makes you wonder if the keystone cops are in charge or what. Clinton should be ashamed for that policy and so should the Democrats, but will it change under the new powers in Washington? Will the resurgent Democrats alter a policy that was flawed to begin with, because it forced men and women to hide who they are, all for the sake of patriotism.

Each of the 12 has served during the current war on terror in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. In all, they have earned more than five dozen awards, medals and commendations. (full story)

Gays and Lesbians can love their country too, as well as others of their own gender. They have skills that are needed, but they are denied that for which they are fighting for and dying for.

EQUALITY.
