Church & Politics

Politics

You know I suppose it goes way back in time, not even sure when it first began, but the Church or religion has been involved in Politics since day one I suppose. Still you hear people and politicians talk about a separation between government and the Church but I wonder, is it even possible?

Take the comments by Senate Candidate Harris. Now if you believe her, it is a religious crusade to have good Christians elected otherwise sin will be legislated, and she include Gay Marraige in that description.

The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will “legislate sin,” including abortion and gay marriage. ( see full article )

While that is a bit arrogant, I wonder why so many religious people believe in comments like that? To begin with, what if they elected Jews? or Muslims? They believe in God as well, so if it isn’t a Christian, does that mean no other religion is valid?

Makes me uncomfortable to see the way the United States is rushing headlong towards some secular type crossroads. I mean there is a great deal of talk about God, and about Family Values, and even Morals, yet I wonder, do they bother to know what those are? I mean they talk about it, but do they list what it means to them?

Obviously I am a sinner, because not only am I Gay, but I am Married, and oh yeah, Jewish too. Wow, that is three strikes against me it seems and yet I wonder, why is it that they orget that Christ himself demanded that the unpopular, the shunned be those brought to him?

Seems to me that if you believe in Christ’s words, you should be INCLUDING people, not EXCLUSING THEM. Yet if you listen to people like Harris or Bush or Harper, they insist that their way is the only REAL WAY and as Bush is famous for saying, Either you for Us or you Against Us. When did Christ say that or anything like it?

Scary times I think, though in all honesty these days, there really seems to be no separation between the Church and the Government. Given how many wars were fought in the middle ages in HIS name, this is not a scenario that has pleasent thoughts attached to it.

Spanish Inquisition comes to mind, as does Quantonimo Bay today.

The Crusades is another and we can look no further than Iraq for perhaps today’s equivelent. Is IRAN next?

I suppose my biggest problem is that I believe in God, but not perhaps how Harper or Bush perceive HIM to be. Does that make me wrong? Should it make me less entitled to equal protection under the law? Seems to me they both think it does, and that is just one small step away from Dictatorship and Hitlerism.
