President Obama, has a nice ring to it. One that if you had said it a year ago no one would have thought possible, yet tonight that is the case. A black man, has won the White House, and not because black voters outnumbered white voters. He won across the board, because he offered something no one else has offered, honesty and hope. He didn't come across as the same style of politician that has held power the last 20 years, and that excited people, but more than that, it made them vote for him. He created a revolution for change, that can only happen in a democracy, a revolution where the old style got kicked in the pants. He reached people, not corporate elitists, but honest working people. He made them forget their prejudices, their traditions even, to come out and support him. President Obama, does have a nice ring.

If you bother to listen to the news pundits, there are blue states, red states, and swing states. Then you have those battleground states, that could swing an election one way or another, or so the experts claim, not that they have ran for any office themselves but hey, they claim to know it all, but do they? Isn't the fact really that an electoral college decides an election, based on archaic rules? Like why should any candidate take it all even if they win one vote, and heck, why do you even need an electoral college? What purpose does it serve, but to further fragment an already disjointed nation? Does a state become Blue because it voted Republican just last time around, or based on its voting history since it obtained statehood? Surely a candidate needs to concentrate on winning, but shouldn't his/her goal be to win each and every state in the popular vote, which would assure them of victory? Why shouldn't the rules be the same, so that if you win 60% of State A, you get 60% of its electoral votes, and that should apply no matter which state it is? Why does one state give you all their votes if you win by 1 vote, while others give you a percentage? Talk about election fixing.

It is amazing, at how things change, but then don't really change. Can whoever wins this election on Tuesday truly bring about any change in how Government works? Has the damage done by 12 years of Bush's and 8 years of Clinton be erased by the new President come this Tuesday? Will enough people show up to vote, to show the politicians who is in charge, who really has the power, or will it be another let down for democracy & freedom? Will apathy rule, or will racism rule? Will the hunger for real change beat the odds, and will history be made, not because a black man may win, but because the people will have spoken in a clear loud voice? Will corporate interests truly be relegated to the back burner, or will it be the same old line, lip service to the needs of the people, but action for those with the cash? Tuesday could be historical, but will it?

Socialism is about helping the less fortunate, by those who have succeeded in doing better. It isn't about increased taxes, or about hurting anyone, despite the Republican Party's portrayal of what socialism is. It is about insuring everyone gets the basics, such as being able to take their kid to a doctor, about being protected from gangs and bullies. Yet somehow the Republican Party believes it is better to give the money from those very helpless people, to the rich, to make them richer, to prey easier on the less fortunate. Socialism is about spreading the wealth, from those who can afford it, but not for fancy new dresses from exclusive shops, but for medicine, for proper text books in schools. That is what real socialism is about, which happens to also be what Jesus preached about, something the moral republican zealots seem to conveniently ignore. True socialism is also known by another name, it is Christianity.

McCain seems to think he got a gift when Obama mentioned how he wants to spread the wealth around, to redistribute it to those who don't have much, who are under attack from their own government. Funny how they use labels to justify their attacks on truth, honesty, and common sense. Socialist is the latest label being attached to Obama, but what is wrong with wanting to help the less fortunate, wanting to let everyone share in the dream? Is it right that fifty odd million people can't afford health care, many of them children? For the Republicans, obviously it is.
