Stockwell Day claims that not all the info relating to the detainee issue can be released, for security reasons. Frankly, I don’t have a problem with that, but I do have a problem in that it is Stephen Harper, Stockwell Day, and other Ministers who are making those decision, WITHOUT ANY OVERSIGHT.  It is a standard ploy of those who abuse power, claiming they can’t discuss it, or provide the details, as lives would be endangered.

Very often, that is just Bullshit. Just look at how torture is now a common tool in our arsenal against terrorists. We have people held in prisons, without any due process, all because of National Security.  Makes you wonder, are we the really the Good Guys in all this?

To begin with, how exactly does diplomatic reports, contain sensitive military data? I mean think about it, and yet here is the Harper regime, holding back those documents, claiming that old chestnut  “National Security“.  Kind of makes you wonder, though, doesn’t it?

Day’s comments come a day after the Liberals, NDP and Bloc Québécois passed a motion in the House of Commons demanding the release of thousands of documents in uncensored form, including reports written by Richard Colvin. ( source – CBC News )

George Bush and his administration were very good at using it, and now his prodigy is trying to follow suit. He is claiming that details in a diplomatic memo, several of them, need to be kept secret, because lives could be put at risk. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy doesn’t it, that our Government is protecting lives, just like George Bush did.  Course then, he did out a secret agent, didn’t he? Will Stevie boy do that too, to get even with a disgruntled diplomat?

Then too, we have the top general retracting his testimony, and you have to ask yourself, what else is being hidden?

IF Mr. Harper wants to put an end to this type of speculation, then hold a hearing, where the information is shown to an impartial trusted referree, a Judge or something, who can then determine if that information is truly sensitive, or just embarassing to the ruling Conservatives. After all, isn’t that what a Democracy is supposed to be about?
