If you listen to these mental giants, our so called Leaders, you sometimes wonder, if they can add, or not. I mean projections are never a certainty, and I get that, but what I don’t get, is how they can be so off, so often.

On May 27, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said the federal deficit will soar to more than $50 billion this fiscal year. That means the government’s shortfall will be more than $16 billion higher in 2009-2010 than Flaherty forecast in January’s budget. ( CBC News )

Now you can play word games all you want, promise me the moon even, but if you tell me your costs to do business will be $30 Billion, then a few months later tell me its gone to $50 Billion. I really have to ask if you can add, or just what was it, that you were hiding and didn’t take into account, for the first forecast.

THAT IS A 50% DIFFERENCE, NOT A FEW PENNIES.

And it isn’t like any other party is any better at this game, which makes me wonder, what is really going on. In my mind, what is worse is that our so called Prime Minister is an Economist, yet he’s consistently failed to be accurate on any of his projections, or pronouncements. I mean it wasn’t even a year ago, when he categorily stated that we’d not be in a deficit for this fiscal year.

It was just 9 months ago, when he said our economy was great, that it wouldn’t be impacted by the Global Recession, and yet here we have a record shrinking of our economy, plus an eleven year high in unemployment.

HOW DID HE MISS ALL THAT?

Now he is throwing money into 3000 projects, nothing new there, but one has to ask. If all those projects are starting, how come the unemployment rate is still going up? How come more people are relying on EI than ever before? So just who is getting all those billions of our taxpayer money?

He is going to auction off Carbon Tax Credits, which really doesn’t make much sense. Yet for him, it is a viable environmental project, but how? It doesn’t eliminate pollution, merely allows companies to pay a small fee, to keep on polluting, and does absolutely nothing to advance alternative sources of production and energy.

HOW IS THAT BEING ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS?

I suppose my biggest concern with the Harper Regime, is that they simply cannot add. IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR, they have told us we could expect a Billion Dollar Surplus to where now it is topping FIFTY BILLION THE OTHER WAY.  Now, I know, things change, they don’t improve as one hopes, but isn’t it time someone in leadership, told the blasted truth?
