Tax Breaks but No Bailouts
Harpernomics is about tax cuts, credits, but not real cash for people who need it. As he announced an $85 million dollar tax credit program for those with disabilities, Stephen Harper also announced he had no plans to bail out Canadian Banks. While I agree that our banks aren’t in the same mess as their USA cousins but you would think he would have a plan, if needed. Obvously not, which shows why we have to make the switch, from Bush Styled Government, back to Canadian style government. You know the kind, where the over riding concern of our elected officials is to benefit the people, not some nameless greedy corporation or special interest group.
The federal government is not considering any bailout plans for Canada’s banks and other financial institutions, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Friday, as a massive and unprecedented package was being prepared in the United States. (source - CBC News)
The thing is, we never expected to face the growing list of recalls for food either. Howeverf we got them, and the death toll stands at 18 now. Again it isn’t just an accident, it is because regulations were changed, because regulation standards were weakened, just as George Bush has done over eight years, and Stephen Harper has tried to do here. The result is clear, our food is no longer safe. It is obvious that at the moment our banks are okay, but for how long, if we re-elect Harper & his party?
That is what this election is about. We have seen his plan, to weaken government regulations over important areas, like food safety, over immigration. If he is re-elected, what assurances do we have that he won’t continue with his mantra of stripping our society of its protection, of letting the inmates rule.
Self regulation is not a viable solution, yet for some reason Harper believes in it. Question is, do you?
Letting business regulate themselves is like letting the cause of a traffic accident investigate it, determine the cause, then have the Police rubber stamp it, and the proposed solution. So think long and hard about how Stephen Harper wants to let the drunk driver who runs a red light, killing innocent people, decide what went wrong, and how to correct it, along with what penalties, if any, should be imposed. You really want Maple Leaf Foods to determine what went wrong, to provide the solution?
CAN YOU TRUST THEM?
This is what Stephen Harper wants us to do. Just as George Bush let the banks, the market place set the course for America, it is the taxpayers who now have to pay the price for it. That is what Harpernomics will do for Canada if you let him.
Today, we see a mirror of George Bush. Back when he could have lessened any impact from bank failures, Bush said there was no need, that basically the financial institutes were sound, despite some serious losses. SOUND FAMILIAR? It should, because basically that is exactly what Stephen Harper has said today. It is why we must switch to anyone but Harper.
