Taunting Doesn’t Pay Off
They say there is a ceasefire in Georgia, between Russia and Georgial, but is there?
While everyone is busy condemning Russia, does anyone even know what started all this war like action by Russia?
We see news reporters among the tanks, listen as they speak to commanders moving ahead with an invasion, and we hear the headlines of more threats against other countries like the Ukraine and Poland, but has anyone bothered to ask, WHY?
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a ceasefire agreement designed to end the fighting in Georgia over the breakaway province of South Ossetia, according to a Kremlin spokesman. (source - CBC News)
Seems to me that we are rapidly approaching, at best, another Cold War era, and at worst WWIII. The bully of the world has shown it is incapable of having a real foreign policy, so that now the thug nations can take advantage, or at least think they can. Course there is also the simple truth that the actions by the USA has helped to bring back old memories. The missile shield that Bush touts, is just one example of how he has endangered the world.
Also the invasion of Iraq has shown that big nations can get away with about anything, specially when you have Big Business in their corner. Makes you also wonder if this latest adventure by Russia isn’t more about Oil, than about break away territory. Is it perhaps, more about controlling its own flow of goods, to insure it makes the profit, vs say letting American interests?
And has the response by the West also been muted by their own self economic interests, vs doing what is simply right?
After all even during WWII, US business flourished with the Nazi’s until after Pearl Harbour. I wonder too, if perhaps all this Globalization has set up a shadow government, not run by despots, dictators, or elected officials, but by Corporate Boards and elitists? I mean the way they seem to funnel money to this politician, and that, it has to give one pause for thought.
Personally, I believe that we are relying way too much on Globalization, which both Bush & Harper promote. I don’t mind dealing with foreign business, but we are sacrificing our Independence, by relying so heavily on business that is everywhere, but here. Call me nationalistic, but what is wrong in buying from your own Country?
To begin with, it creates jobs for our citizens. Is it our obligation to create jobs for the millions of Chinese or other developing countries? Not only is it about creating jobs here, of keeping them here, but isnt it also about keeping goods made, at a standard we want, not what is acceptable to some foreign government?
This whole Georgia / Russia mess seems to be a mix between the interests of big conglomerates, as well as Russia taking advantage of a US lack of direction. It is also likely a response to Bush’s insane desire to put missiles along the Russian Border. That was simply asking for some sort of response, and I think we are seeing it now.
