McCain Should Know Better
Rather disappointed in Senator John McCain and his remarks about the recent Supreme Court Decision, regarding the RIGHTS of people held on American Soil, for being SUSPECTED TERRORISTS. Frankly, he should know better, given how he was a prisoner of war himself. After all, if the Viet Cong had a Constitution & Bill of Rights like the USA, would he have been subjected to torture? Would any of the American Service Personnel been?
NO!
See that is what separates the GOOD GUYS FROM THE BAD GUYS. The simple RULE OF LAW that may not be agreeable, nor pleasing, but when a leader follows it, well then it becomes something. No LOYAL TROOPS are needed to keep people in line, to keep order. RIOTS like they have in TIBET or had in Tiananamen Square in China don’t happen in America or Canada. Sure we have PROTESTS against UNPOPULAR LAWS & ACTIONS like during the Viet Nam War, but it is the RULE OF LAW that KEEPS GOVERNMENTS IN CHECK.
“I think it’s one of the worst decisions in history,” McCain said. “It opens up a whole new chapter and interpretation of our constitution.” 1
What is so new?
Tell me Senator McCain, Presidential hopeful, what is so new about people being accorded the right to a fair and impartial hearing? When did it apply only to US Citizens in the United States? What about the Foreign Nationals that you take off airplanes, then deport to a country other than their own? You use American Law to justify such actions, so why are those at Gitmo not entitled to at least that?
If American Law & Justice DOES NOT APPLY to Foreign Nationals being held by Americans on American Soil, then UNDER WHOSE JURISDICTION DO THEY FALL UNDER?
Tell me Senator McCain, when did the RULE OF LAW become only available to selected groups? Where in the USA Constitution or Bill of Rights, does it say that DUE PROCESS is only for a selected group of people living within the jurisdiction of the United States Boundaries? Tell me Senator, when does the Law only Apply to a few and not to all?
YOU ARE WRONG SENATOR McCain.
The Rule of Law has been applied properly to all those within the USA boundaries, as it should be in any civilized Democracy. To do otherwise is to rewrite your famous Constitution, to do anything else, is to read into what isn’t there. Of all people, you Senator McCain should be celebrating this decision, because it shows that America is not the tyrant the world perceives it to be. It should be hailed for what it is Senator McCain, by you and other soldiers who fought for it, as an example of what has been paid for, IN RIVERS of BLOOD.
In case you haven’t figured it out, and obviously you haven’t. This decision confirms DEMOCRACY.
Maybe you should try to remember that, Senator.
