Failure to be Accountable

Remember the mantra from the last election, about how Stephen Harper and his Party would BRING ACCOUNTABILITY & TRANSPARENCY TO GOVERNMENT?
Frankly, in my opinion it is clear that it was A COMPLETE LIE!
The federal Conservatives have quietly killed an access to information registry used by journalists, experts and the public that users say helped hold the government accountable.
The Coordination of Access to Information Requests System, or CAIRS, is an electronic list of nearly every access to information request filed to federal departments and agencies.
Originally created in 1989, it was used as an internal tool to keep track of requests and co-ordinate the government’s response between agencies to potentially sensitive information released. (source – CBC News)
The simple truth is that while the Government claims it had better ways to use the resources maintaining this database took, we all know that is a total fabrication. What is at stake, is that Stephen Harper no longer wants to be embarrassed by his faux pas. He wants to keep things as secret as possible, because he wants to hold onto power, so he can make his millions, just like his heroes George Bush and Brian Mulroney.
After all, if Brian Mulroney can leave office and become a millionaire and even get the taxpayer to fork over millions for his lies, why shouldn’t his student do him one better? The whole Airbus Mess is only the tip of the iceberg, as Mulroney got millions for lying under oath, yet Stephen Harper continues to protect him.
Let’s see, we have him breaking every single promise he made, during the election, and he says he has no faith in Election’s Canada? Let me see, there is the Cadman Affair, where Tories tried to BRIBE CHUCK CADMAN, then we have the whole AIRBUS MESS, the BRIAN MULRONEY LIES, and let’s not forget how he made his chief financial officer a Senator and Cabinet Member, nor the whole Emerison Debacle right after the election.
The seizure of records, the over spending, the concern raised by his own candidates from the way the books were handled, but hey, he has no problem with that, just with Elections Canada doing its job, and how the Government allows access to information.
Those he has problems with.
So much for honest, open government. He can holler about the Sponsorship Scandal all he wants, while it was wrong, it was also about preserving the Canadian Union, all of Mr Harper’s little scandals is about PERSONAL GAIN.
Bottom line, TWO WRONGS DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT.
