143 Million Pounds of Beef Recalled
General Chit Chat Comments (1)
Rare Sunday recall today of 143 Million Pounds of Beef was announced by the USDA today.
The federal agency said the recall will affect beef products dating to Feb. 1, 2006, that came from Chino-based Westland/Hallmark Meat Co., which supplies meat to the federal school lunch program and to some major fast-food chains. (source)
So which are the major food chains that buy from this outfit?
Be nice to know which outfit to stay clear of, because do you really believe they are going to somehow pull it? I mean on Sunday, and oh yeah, with employees that can’t even figure out how to count your change.
This is a recall that should have been made days ago, after the details of the animal abuse was revealed. Why has it taken the USDA so long? And again, why is it VOLUNTARY? This is about potentially harmful beef, being fed through the School System. Surely that alone should have been enough to warrant an IMMEDIATE RECALL, not left till TODAY.
Officials estimate that about 37 million pounds of the recalled beef went to school programs, but they believe most of the meat probably has already been eaten. There have been no reported illnesses linked to the beef at any of the schools. (source)
Scary, and troubling. I mean surely there has to be a BETTER SYSTEM than what exists today, to insure the safety of at least CHILDREN? I mean if a plant supplies Schools, maybe MORE RIGOROUS INSPECTIONS are in order, irrespective of the costs. To keep going on, as is, is asking for trouble.
