February is a short month, but will the product recall list be as short?

Somehow I rather doubt it, as Consumer Safety remains at the bottom of the list of priorities in a world plagued by war, economic woes, housing foreclosures, and of course, an election of giant proportions.

Children’s Sketchbooks (Made in China) [Lead Paint Hazard]

Description: The recalled children’s sketchbooks have colored spiral metal bindings, drawing paper, and cardboard covers in the following styles. “eeBoo” and the style name are printed on a sticker on the back cover. (Recall Details Here)

Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts (Made in China) [Strangulation Hazard]

Description: This recall involves the Bonafide Love children’s hooded sweatshirts. The sweatshirts are reversible and come in two styles. The hearts and stars style is green and in the front has a heart surrounded by pink stars. On the reverse, it is hot pink with light pink dots. The Robots style is gray with drawings of robots and pink hearts. On the reverse, it has a zebra-like pattern with gray and black stripes. “Bonafide Love” is printed on a label sewn into the collar. Girls Bicycles (Made in China, Taiwan) [Frame Failure]

Description: This recall involves Trek girls’ bicycles model MT220 and model years 2005 (light metallic blue), 2006 (metallic silver and metallic purple or pink and pearl white), and 2007 (pink and white pearl or metallic purple). The model name is printed on the frame of the bicycle. Model year 2008 bicycles re not included in this recall. (Recall Details Here)

Pendants & Candle Charms (Made in Korea) [Lead Hazard]

Description: The recalled pewter pendants were sold in eight collections of 12 pendants each. The pendant collections included Signs of the Zodiac, Runes, Ritual, Goddess, Chinese Zodiac, and Celtic Harmonies. The pendants were sold separately and on candles of various colors and scents. Egg Shaped Toy Shaker Instruments (Made in China) [Choking, Aspiration, Hazard]

Description: This recall involves clear, plastic egg-shaped instruments with various color beads inside. The beads inside the shaker instrument come in five colors: red, white, green, dark blue and aqua. “Basic Beat” and “Jumbo Egg Crystal” is printed on a label attached to the plastic bag packaging. Model numbers “BB5102” and “202212” are printed on the side of the label. (Recall Details Here)

Children’s Table & Chair Sets (Made in China) [Lead Hazard]

Description: The recalled table and chair sets are natural colored. The table is either round or rectangular, has a shelf under the table and includes two chairs. Model number ALZ024-3 or ALZ023-3 is printed on the packaging. (Recall Details Here)

Monday approaches, will there be another list of product recalls? Kind of seems unlikely that a week will go by without some product recall. Kind of feel like going out to buy a whole bunch of lead testing kits, and when shopping, testing, just so I don’t have to wait for some recall notice, buried in the classified ads, or on some obscure website.

Brings up another side effect as well. While the PRIMARY GOAL should be to protect family members, and even if every time you see your child sucking on a toy you take it away, what about if you have pets?
