You have to wonder if these Conservatives were badly toilet trained as children? I mean every time they want something, they threaten the opposition, either calling them Unpatriotic, or Undemocratic, or some other absurd label, in an effort to win the Public Relations game. The Republicans in the US Senate, when the Democratic led Senate tried to add relief to Seniors and Disabled Veterans comes to mind, as the most recent Republican Tactic.

Then we have Stephen Harper, who is threatening our Senate, that if they don’t pass his Crime Bill by March 1st, he’ll call an election. Now, that doesn’t seem to be an effective threat, because whether he wins or not, the Senate will still be there. THANKFULLY.

And I suppose he knows that, which is why now he is threatening to call an election over his motion to extend our military operation in Afghanistan to 2011.  NATO isn’t so quick to add any troops, and so why is Stephen Harper so quick to want to extend our mission? Is it because we are needed, or because his BOSS, George W. Bush, has said so?

“We believe the mission in Afghanistan should continue. It is why the motion seeking to continue the military mission will be a matter of confidence,” government House leader Peter Van Loan said Friday. (source)

It is a complex issue, but why is he bringing this before the House now? Harper claims it is merely implementing the Manley Report, however, the Manley report made the recommendation to extend our mission, under two major conditions. One is to have NATO increase its presence, by about a 1000 troops, and the second is to get our Military the Helicopters they require.

SO MR. HARPER, HAS NATO ADDED THE EXTRA TROOPS YET?  HAVE YOU ORDERED THE HELICOPTERS?

Price of DemocracyOr is perhaps this desire to push for a spring election due to pressure from your BOSS, George W. Bush? Could it be his desire to have you further commit our forces, while he pleads with the European Union to add some extra forces? I mean, maybe you can explain to us, why the current mission isn’t working? Is it because since you took office, the mission has been changed from its original concept, by the will of HERR BUSH?

Could it simply be that NATO realizes that, and has dug their heels in, so as to get the mission back on track, while all you do is kiss George’s ass?

It is strange, how these so called Conservatives, (Republican or Alliance Party now Conservative Party) all seem to try and use FEAR as a means of scaring people, to support them. This Bush War on Terror has netted very little results in what, SEVEN LONG YEARS? So maybe they aren’t the solution to the whole terror issue at all, perhaps the solution is to come up with a mission, that protects the gains made, protects the Afghan people, and then pursues the Taliban once the gains have been secured. Perhaps the simple truth is, that there are other plans, that simply don’t meet with George Bush’s concept of fighting terror.

Why the rush Mr. Harper?

If the Manley Report is correct, is what you plan on accepting as your policy, then why don’t you secure the NATO TROOPS and the HELICOPTERS, and THEN BRING IT UP. I mean the current mandate has till Feb 2009, so not like a decision by Parliament is needed NOW. Or this is merely a way for you to frighten people, to use as an election ploy, hoping to get your way, and to appease your BOSS, George W. Bush?
