Waterboarding Essential

America, let’s face facts.
Torture, no matter how many lives it saves, no matter how ‘safe‘ it might be, is simply WRONG for any DEMOCRACY TO EMPLOY. And if Representative Lamar Smith (R) of Texas actually is right in his belief that 98% of American Citizens truly do support such antics, such disrespect for HUMAN RIGHTS, then maybe it is time America passed from the World Stage.
The House Judiciary Committee’s top Republican, Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, said he hopes the “administration will not be defensive about using some admittedly harsh but non-lethal interrogation techniques.”
“Would you agree with me that 99% of the American people would probably endorse such techniques if they would be shown to save thousands of American lives and were conducted only on terrorists?” Smith asked Mukasey.
“I can’t sit here and say what I think 99% of people would do,” Mukasey answered.
“You can’t but I can,” Smith said. “I understand that.” (source)
If history is any indication of what people think of torture, then I think Rep Smith needs a bit of a lesson in reality. Even in Communist North Korea, China, and Old Communist Russia, the use of torture for ‘security‘ was never applauded by the down trodden citizens of those countries. The urge for freedom of such things burns in their hearts, even today in countries that have used such methods for DECADES.
Subjugated people do not support their state regimes, even those who have been ‘reconditioned‘ do not just accept it. They yearn still, for the time when either they or their children, or even grandchildren will be free of such oppression. And this is what the policy of George W. Bush is creating among the world, a yearning for when the TYRANT AMERICA is defeated.
This is what George Bush and his followers like Lamar Smith have created. By ignoring what makes US DIFFERENT, they have fueled the belief that America is as evil as those who oppress them. It is why they fight, why they are willing to strap on bombs and blow up people. They don’t see it as a war of anarchy, but as a war of Freedom.
I do not believe that 98% of Americans support Torture, as Rep Lamar Smith maintains. This clap trap is simply about an attempt to spin the truth, which is that the Administration HAS USED TORTURE, KNOWINGLY. That it has VIOLATED ITS OWN CONSTITUTION, and rather than do the right thing, and bring these CRIMINALS TO JUSTICE, they hide under the fake ‘National Security‘ criteria.
Simple truth, the shunting aside of the very laws that protects us from Tyrants, is what makes them Tyrants. Innocent lives lost are the price of such Freedom, and history has shown that Free People Are Willing To Pay That Price. That is the sacrifice the men at Valley Forge made, the men at the Alamo, the men at Wake Island, at Bataan, at Normandy, all paid.
George Bush and his Gang have sullied those sacrifices, in the name of National Security, for the glory of Power. When his term is over, eight years will live in the annals of American History, as being the time when America was tested, and found wanting. What lays ahead will be determined by new leaders, but as long as the same old gang stay in power, whether Democrat or Republican, history will not look kindly on this period for America.
Torture is Torture, no matter how safe the conditions are when it is being done. There is no spin for doing what is in clear violation of Human Rights, of GODS LAWS. There is no morality in saying it saves lives. That is what the Monsters of Auschwitz said in their trials, it is what the animals who carried out Stalin’s Orders during his Purges said, after they shot and killed millions.
