Canada Can’t Afford Stephen Harper
Prepare for Hard Economic Times, Stephen Harper tells cheering Tories, like this is something he just found out about?
Canadians cannot afford to be complacent about the economy because recent problems in the financial markets won’t be disappearing any time soon, Prime Minister Stephen Harper told members of his caucus on Friday. (source)
Just like his Master, George W. Bush, Stephen Harper is late to the party about the Economy. Unlike his Master, Bush, he should have known better, as he claims to be an Economist. If there is any lesson to be learned from the Melt Down of the USA Economy, it is that DE-REGULATION DOES NOT WORK.
It should be evident to Stephen Harper that tax cuts don’t benefit economies that have no regulation, no checks or balances. The ideology of letting the Market Place sort out the inequities is just bull crap. People are and will continue to be greedy unless they are checked. (Just as Chamberlain found out with HITLER) This is why the USA is rapidly melting down, threatening to take the world with it, simply because George Bush & Bill Clinton failed to understand the nature of man.
When you sell everything off, when you rely on cheap outsourced labor to manage your affairs, to produce your consumables, you have nothing to fall back on. When you sell industries off, claiming it is to protect the Economy, you take away your own Economic Independence. This wasn’t a good Christmas Season for retailers, for one simple reason. People wanted SAFE GOODS over CHEAP IMPORTED CRAP.
Canada is a strange and unique country. I mean we are the largest land mass Nation, and yet we have under 35 Million Citizens, but we occupy the land from coast to coast. We are rich in Natural Resources, and our boundaries border the two Super Powers out of the Three. We share 2 Mother Countries, in England and France, & for the most part have managed to co-exist without a lot of fuss. Oh we have had our share of differences, and there are some who have the notion that we would be better off without the other, but they truly are a minority.
Over the brief history of this country, we have gained a reputation for being blunt, and open. It was Trudeau who opened up Communist China to the Western Democracies, and it was Canada who supported England long before the United States entered WWII. We stood by the West during Korea and we went our own way during Viet Nam & Iraq. It was because our leadership was Canadian, was not afraid to stand up to the United States or the Communist Nations like Russia or China. We brokered a peace in the Middle East and Canada had a stellar reputation in Peace Keeping.
Canadians could take PRIDE in their Nation, for doing what was right, for trying to work with other nations, rather than against them, or in seeking nothing but profits. Least until the Mulroney & Harper eras hit this country. With Mulroney we became a lackey to the United States, a satelight state no different than East Germany was to Russia, or Poland. NAFTA became the beginning of weakening the Independance this country was noted for.
When Chretien took office, our economy was in shambles, our relations with the world was a joke. When 9/11 hit, Canada stood tall, doing what NO OTHER NATION COULD, and yet for our efforts we were snubbed. It hurt, but it didn’t matter, because we had once more restored our efforts to be INDEPENDENT. When Bush struck out at Afghanistan, we were there, but when he tried to expand his Muscle to take over Oil Rich Iraq we STOOD APART. Again, following our tradition of being Independent, of being OUR OWN MASTERS.
The Canadian Government once more reflected the wishes of IT’S PEOPLE, and not the vested Interests of the United States or Big Conglomerates like Haliburton. That all changed when Stephen Harper manipulated his victory to become leader of the Alliance Party. With support of Brian Mulroney and his cronies, Stephen Harper then sealed a deal with Peter McKay to swallow up the old Conservative Party of Diefenbaker, and Stanfield to form the New Conservatives, which is really nothing but the Alliance Party under a new name.
Using support from the Religious Right in the United States, the New Conservatives then began to attack the values that made this country great. Using George Bush Style rhetoric and attacks, Stephen Harper assaulted our country by creating fear, by gaining support out of Fear. He used ‘faith‘ as a means of ridiculing others, and he used ‘fear‘ to make us afraid of ourselves, of our own values. He has tried to impose his will, his own ‘faith‘ on a nation built on tolerance of faiths, of differences.
Stephen Harper has preached endlessly about being an open and honest leader, and yet his first act was to put aside that very transparency, to allow his Cabinet to deal with former Tories now as Lobbyists, including his best friend Brian Mulroney. He has blocked access to information of government laws, of government works, in order to protect HIS SUPPORTERS. He even named one as a ‘conflict commissioner‘ which is no different than George Bush making his pal Brownie head of FEMA. It was and is a payoff.
He played on ‘fear‘ by saying only ‘he‘ could bring about a working relation with the United States, and that it would be less confrontational. Well, he was right, it is indeed less confrontational, simply because he has done whatever George Bush has demanded. The softwood lumber deal was a sell out, the sale of Stelco just another sellout in a long line of SELLING CANADA OUT.
His acceptance of ‘faith based trade‘ as ordained by his master, George Bush, has brought in unsafe products to the Canadian Marketplace. Industry in Canada is gradually slipping, and as the USA appetite for our Resources grows, our control over them diminishes as Stephen Harper whittles away at it. He deregulates the industries he is sworn to protect, by claiming the marketplace will solve all issues. He offers no environmental plan, that even his master can’t support. He gives Industry taxpayer money for programs that are ill conceived and unworkable, such as his rebate for energy effecient vehicles.
He muzzles the experts, threatens them with job losses, if they don’t support his plan, that even his conservative Think Tanks object to, or agree are pointless programs. He gives us tax credits in dribs and drabs, the same tax cuts that he used to bring down the previous government with. Hypocrisy is a keyword, and shouting at all who defy him, shows he learns his lessons well from his master, George W. Bush.
He stands behind his friends, like Brian Mulroney, and uses his office to shield them from investigation, until he has no choice but to open inquiries. Look at the whole Schreiber mess, where he was fully aware of the allegations long before they were public knowledge, yet he threatened and blustered, in an attempt to block any investigation. And now that Mulroney has admitted to taking the money, Harper still refuses to fully investigate the affair, he still has yet to seek an inquiry into the payment given to his buddy, Brian Mulroney.
Stephen Harper promised to open up government, to make it transparent yet in releasing details of his long awaited legislation on Lobbying, he fails to protect the nation, by not requiring ALL INTERACTIONS BE RECORDED, just uh vocal discussions? No Emails, No Memo, nothing to insure that undue influence isn’t being made on our elected officials. Another failed promise, in a long line of failed promises.
And now our International Reputation continues to be weakened as he has stalled the program to deliver cheap drugs to poor nations. A program that has the United States upset, that has them opposed to, simply because it provides drugs to countries desperate for medical help in battling epidemics like AIDS & HIV. The drug companies oppose the plan, and have brought pressure to bear, through the United States Government, to delay, and tie up this program, announced back in 2004 by the previous government. The one that WASN’T AFRAID OF UNCLE SAM.
It is all different now. The laws for same sex marriage, have been sustained, despite Stephen Harpers attempt at over turning it. The law to legalize Pot for medical needs, and individual consumption has been pushed aside, because the United States didn’t like it. They opposed it, and we no longer have it. And now, cheap drugs to poor nations is being held back, and because George Bush doesn’t like it.
We have lost our voice, thanks to Stephen Harper, the man who refused to say he loved his country, the man who refused to wear the jersey of a Canadian Team because it might offend the USA team. This is our Prime Minister, and is why we simply cannot afford him any longer.
Our country lead the world in privacy rights, that Stephen Harper is attempting to over turn. He holds secret meetings about Canadians tortured under USA jurisdiction, because he doesn’t want to embarrass his master, George W. Bush. He rejected the Kyoto Accord, putting his own plan in place that has NO SUPPORT FROM ANYONE, but George Bush.
And now he says we need to prepare for the worse, so just where did that $14 Billion Surplus Go?
