First they dismissed him under the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy, and even went so far as to recover his enlistment bonus payment. Now the US Navy has recalled him, and here is the kicker, he accepted the recall and is now serving on active duty in Kuwait.

“However, because I was gay, the Navy discharged me and recouped my $13,000 sign-on bonus. Nine months later, the Navy recalled me to active duty. Did I accept despite everything that happened? Of course I did, and I would do it again. Because I love the Navy and I love my country. And . . . my shipmates support me.” (see Story)

While it is laudable that he has returned, it brings up the question of the entire policy of the United States Military Command. Specifically it brings into question the recent remarks by the head military honcho himself, General Pace. (see comment ‘White Sheets all Pressed & Cleaned‘) If you recall, the General said that the United States Military was sworn to a higher morality, and that to repeal DADT was saying that the United States supported immoral behavior.

So why is Petty Officer Knight now serving?

I’d also like to know, will the Navy give him back the $13,000 he returned when they cashiered him for being Gay? After all, they seem to need him. However, there is perhaps more to this than just that the United States brass is behind the times, and lost in confusion. The real issue is that obviously DADT has no real impact. People know, and as proved by the recall of Petty Office Knight, has no ill effect on Unit Cohesiveness, nor on the supposed morality of the Armed Forces.

Not that the United States Military is all that Moral, all things considered.

Note Please > Since writing this for posting, it seems that hey guess what, with a short time left to complete a year, the US Military has once more put on its bonehead hat, and is dismissing the man, for guess what? Yep under DADT.
