So it seems that the fallout from Ann Coulter’s slur (see comments ‘She is Feisty’ and ‘Commentators Racism’) against Senator Edwards hasn’t really cost her all that much, yet. Be nice if it did actually, because as long as these racists get away with their attacks, it won’t lessen or end. It will only spiral onwards, until something horrible happens. History has shown that.

It is the money that fuels all this and I have to wonder. Is she doing it because she actually believes in her homophobia, or is really about the shock value that in turn helps sells her newspaper column and subsequent books?

While it seems some are dropping her column, the book publisher is behind her all the way…. to the bank? I mean it is evident that in her books, she takes no prisoners and even attacks widows of some who died in 9/11. So as those books were big money makers, are the publishers counting on her upcoming release to be another such cash cow for them, and her? Perhaps it is time people woke up, that racism comes under many guises, and her supposed upfront attitude is really just a money grab.

“We have a book with her on our fall list and have no plans on altering our current publication plans,” Crown publisher and senior vice president Steve Ross told The Associated Press in a recent e-mail. “Every book we have published with Ann has been a major best seller and we expect the same with the upcoming title.” (full Story)

What ever happened to simply putting aside the profits, and doing what was right? Perhaps more of her columns will be dropped, and as they fall away, so too will her popularity among the masses. Hey, one can dream but you know, in all honesty I don’t see people like her going away until something horrible happens. I hope not, but given how racist America has become under Bush, it is a real possibility I think.
