At Any Cost!

Or so it seems as the United States Army announced it had met its goal of new recruits but lowered it standards of acceptance. Funny isn’t it? To think that the United States is willing to accept recruits for protecting itself by lowering standards and then countries like Canada wonder why our Troops are strafed and killed by US Air Force personnel? ( see comment ) Just an accident?

With the world nearing a nucleur confrontation ( see commentary on North Korea ) or worse, having easier access to nucleur weapons for terrorists like Osama, and the US Army meets its recruitment target by lowering its standards. Naturally when you read the facts, doesn’t seem all that bad, but is that how we truly want to see the only remaining superpower arm itself? With sub standard recruits who get moral waivers for offences such as DUI and DRUG ABUSE?

Of those accepted under waivers, more than half were for “moral” reasons, mostly misdemeanor arrests. Thirty-eight percent were for medical reasons and 7% were drug and alcohol problems, including those who may have failed a drug test or acknowledged they had used drugs. ( see story )

Like this is good common sense isn’t it. Let’s give hand grenades and automatic weapons to people who have a history of drug abuse or alcohol abuse. Oh that is gonna make the world safer isn’t it? And they wonder why there were the atrocities at the Iraqi prison?

Perhaps instead of worrying so much about winning or losing control of the Congress, these political leaders should start paying a bit more attention to how they get soldiers instead of how to spin a sex scandel?
