Regime Changes Again?

Well at least America isn’t threatening to invade Palestine, but you seriously have to wonder at the thinking that goes on in the Bush Administration these days, or for that matter, any days since 9/11. It is almost as if Bush is on a mission to engage the entire world into another conflagration.
Hamas is the elected government and whether they want to renounce violence or not, whether they want to recognize Israel or not, is something the people need to determine, not America. As much as I personally find Hamas distasteful, they are the result of American Meddling into the affairs of sovereign nations. In many ways their election is also a direct result of the inability of the United States diplomats to bring about an end to the troubles there, or to even appear as an honest broker for peace.
Anwar Sadat started the process and it has gone no where. Unfortunately Rabin was murdered and one wonders if the continued festering of troubles in the Middle East is really something America wants to solve, or is it to their advantage to have it in chaos? I mean it does drive up gas prices and oil prices, and yet the same oil companies that chose Bush are reaping huge profits. So if there was peace, would they still have the outrageous profits or would it suddenly become competitive?
Rice is in the Middle East talking to moderate Arab leaders, once more forcing America’s will on the region, though in all honesty, America’s influence is a shadow of its former presence. There is little doubt that all sides in the region no longer pay attention to American Orders and perhaps that chaos, that defiance is the first step in the region being able to finally come to terms with each other.
Ms Rice said on Tuesday that the Palestinians “need a government that can engage the international community and can engage the broad consensus that a two-state solution is the answer”. ( Full Story )
The issue is that it the US led embargo on loans to Palestine that has caused the current unrest, in short, American meddling. Fact is, Hamas is also a product of American Meddling and to send Rice into the region once more, to again try and meddle through diplomatic nuances isn’t going to win friends and influence those in the region. Besides, seems rather stupid and crazy given that Hamas is also at war with Israel right now. There is no ceasefire there nor has Hamas returned the kidnapped Israeli. So perhaps that should be the first priority and maybe, just maybe the fighting between Fatah and Hamas is the regions own solution to the situation.
So should America once more intervene?
Their prior intervention is what led Palestinians to vote for Hamas and create this situation. Perhaps if they stay out of it, maybe, just maybe Fatah can recapture its presence and take the country back to the bargaining table. Sometimes, as harsh as it sounds, the killng fields might bring about Peace. After all it did eventually bring it about in Ireland, so maybe this fighting might just wake up many and bring about something politically that could, or might, lead to a solution. However, interferance by the USA right now won’t help, but push them to Hamas. How is that going to help the region or the world?
